Dhaka, January 10, 2025 — With the National Election of Bangladesh scheduled for February 2026, Dot Initiative organized a workshop titled “Fact-Checking & Countering Misinformation Ahead of National Election 2026” at the University of Dhaka to raise awareness among students about misinformation, disinformation, and responsible digital engagement.
The workshop was inaugurated by K M Emrul Hasan, President of Dot Initiative, who emphasized the growing threat of misinformation during election periods and highlighted the critical role of youth in protecting democratic values through responsible information sharing.
The first session of the workshop was conducted by Mohiuddin Muzahid Mahi, President of the Dhaka University Journalists’ Association (DUJA). In his session, he discussed how misinformation spreads during elections, common tactics used to manipulate public opinion, and the importance of ethical journalism and media literacy.
Following this, Qadaruddin Shishir, Editor of The Dissent, led the second session, where he provided hands-on insights into fact-checking techniques. He demonstrated practical tools for verifying news, images, and viral social media content, and encouraged students to critically evaluate information before sharing it online.
The workshop concluded with closing remarks by Ferdous Aiam, General Secretary of Dot Initiative, who thanked the facilitators and participants for their active engagement. He reaffirmed Dot Initiative’s commitment to empowering youth with digital literacy skills and promoting informed civic participation ahead of the national election.
Students from various departments of the University of Dhaka participated in the workshop, engaging in interactive discussions and practical exercises. The program aimed to equip young citizens with the knowledge and skills necessary to counter misinformation and contribute to a healthy democratic environment.
